Our Santa’s Giant Charity Fun Run was unique in Kent and is still the best! It has already raised over £80,000 for charities and good causes in it’s first seven years. Major beneficiaries include Children with Leukaemia, Kent Air Ambulance, Institute of Cancer Research, Pilgrims Hospices in East Kent, Cystic Fibrosis Trust (Kent), Folkestone Samaritans and Prostate UK. This years run takes place on Sunday 4th December 2011 and will be supporting the alzheimers society as well as lots of local charities.

Despite the Siberian winter weather for much of the week before the 2010 run, over 500 Santas registered. All corners of the globe were represented from China and Hong Kong to the Czech Republic and Nepal.  Aged from 18 months to 85 they ran, jogged, walked or were pushed in prams.

We were joined by Mr Happy (of Mr Men fame) representing the Children With Leukaemia charity which was Channel Rotary’s lead good cause.  Channel Rotary’s Santa Fund also supports a range of local charities in addition to those chosen by the Santas.

Event Director, Rotarian Joe Sullivan was delighted with the outcome.  “My thanks to my team and to all our Santas.  Only two days ago we were considering postponing the Run because of the appalling winter weather and today we have a wonderful event that will benefit so many people”.  Ben Twyman from Children With Leukaemia was equally delighted.  “Loved the day, loved the event. Thank you so much.”
